Finding Local Love During Lockdown

As 2020 is coming to an end and the new year is just around the corner, December marks 10 months since we went into the first UK lockdown. Since then, our world has been turned upside down and life as we knew it completely got turned on it’s head, especially for UK singletons.

Lockdown has put a stop to people going out on dates and meeting new people during the Coronavirus crisis, and it has caused an increased sense of isolation for lots of single people hoping to find love up and down the country. Although rather than giving up, people who are stuck at home have taken the matter into their own hands and are apparently spending more time interacting and using dating sites now more than ever.

Data shows that 50 percent of singles have increased their use of online dating websites and apps in the hope of meeting someone new, and more and more people are taking advantage of video calling. It has been an especially hard time for those who live alone, with the vast majority (67 percent) of people who live alone admitting that finding a partner seems more important to them than ever.

Online dating ideas

Despite not being able to go out on dates in the real world, people are continuing to date creatively with online dating users suggesting virtual museum tours (92 percent), online classes (91 percent) and quizzes (90 percent) to get something whilst assessing their compatibility. This saves you the time and money of going out on a date with someone in person. Daters are becoming more concerned with their potential partner’s personality, rather than their looks, and online dating allows you to become more connected with your date, as you can spend more time chatting to them over an online dating site or app.

There has also been an increase in Northamptonshire singles looking for their soul mate, as Northamptonshire dating has become increasingly popular during lockdown.

The increasing need to find new and meaningful connections among daters has also been present with over half of users (55 percent), suggesting that daters are not just using dating sites to find love or a hook up, but they are also looking to make new friends and meet new people with things in common.

Top Tips For Online Dating

A tip for those who are looking to date on online dating sites and apps is to act like chatting to them online is a face to face date and dress as you would if you were going to meet someone in person. It is an opportunity to get creative with your dates and think of activities you can do whilst on video chat. This can include online escape rooms, Netflix viewing parties where you can still watch a film together or binge a new series, or even a dinner party – obviously you would need to cook your own meals yourselves though!

We would be completely lost without the internet at the moment, just think of lockdown as an opportunity to meet some new people, and you never know what may happen!
