With houses in the UK getting smaller, the average UK home sold in 2018 is now 76 square metres and has 4.8 rooms, compared to the average size of houses sold in 2016 that were 90 square metres.
However, this may be a positive in disguise for some people, and I’m about to tell you a few reasons why!
Less Cleaning And Maintenance Required
Having fewer rooms in your home results in less time and money spent on cleaning and home maintenance, which further means that you don’t have to spend loads of money on cleaning products! This means that you can spend more time doing the things you love – as we all know that cleaning can be a drag sometimes!
More Energy Efficient
Smaller homes are more energy efficient because they have less space to heat up and cool down. Therefore this works out being cheaper as a homeowner, and you have a reduced ecological footprint – who doesn’t want that?
Lower Mortgage Repayments
Usually smaller homes cost less money, therefore you will have a smaller mortgage overall. This means that it will take less time and a lot less money for you to own your home. You may wish to check out a site like https://www.sofi.com/home-
Cheaper Bills
The cost of home insurance, taxes, electricity etc will be much cheaper in a smaller home, again due to having less space.
Helps You To Live Minimally
Because you have less space, it means that you have less storage space. Consequently this may cause you to cut down on buying junk that you don’t need as you won’t have anywhere to put it! I absolutely hate having clutter and junk in my home, so this is one of my favourite reasons to own a smaller home!
More Money To Spend On Decorating
Although it is a lot easier to buy a house that is ready to move into, if you buy a cheaper house it means that you have more money to refurbish and decorate it. Or in other words, put your own stamp on it!
Helps Strengthen And Build Relationships
One of the most important points to make is that having a smaller house allows you to spend more time together. This is due to the fact that there is not much space to get away from each other!
In conclusion, a smaller house has many benefits and you don’t have to worry about ‘Keeping up with the Joneses’! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or tweet me @BritOnABudget1.
