Recently, Morrisons were the first UK supermarket to partner with the Too Good To Go app, which prevents food waste and offers food past its ‘best before’ date to customers for a reduced price, although the food is still edible. This can include anything from unsold fruit and veg, bakery and deli items. Each ‘magic bag’ will include items worth at least £10 collectively, for a grand total of just £3.09.

 Keep reading to find out what I got in my Morrisons Too Good To Go box, and my top tips on how you can grab yourself a box of your own.

What Is Too Good To Go?

If you haven’t already heard of Too Good To Go, it’s a free app where you can purchase food at a discounted rate, that would otherwise be thrown away at the end of the day.

There are a total of 3,367 businesses on the app, including big names like Yo Sushi and Cafe Nero, which are helping to minimise food waste.

How Does It Work?

It works by buying a ‘Magic Bag’ from your selected restaurant, cafe or bakery, which will include a random selection of items for less than what you would normally pay. You don’t get to choose which items are included in your box, it’s a lucky dip. However, the items should be worth at least £10 at full price collectively.

You can buy the boxes and pay for them via the Too Good To Go app, and the payment methods include card, Paypal or Apple Pay. The app will provide you with a specific time slot when you can go and pick up your magic bag. It isn’t until then that you find out what is in your box.

My Top Tips For Securing Yourself A Morrisons Too Good To Go Box

I have found it extremely difficult trying to get a Too Good To Go box, as there are only a couple of boxes available each day at every Morrisons branch. I asked at my local Morrisons how many available boxes they had and the man at customer services advised there was just one per day!

So to maximise your chances of grabbing one of the Morrisons boxes, make sure to follow these steps:

• Download the Too Good To Go app
• Proceed to the ‘Discover’ page or click on the ‘Map’ to see where you nearest particpating Morrisons is located
• Check when the collection time slot closes, as the magic bags for the next day usually go on sale 15 minutes after this time. The window normally closes at 18:00pm, which means the magic bags for the next day should go on sale at around 18:15pm.
• Check when the magic bags sold out the day before. This is usually between 18:15pm to 18:17pm, so you’ve got to be quick if you want one!
• Set an alarm for 10 minutes after the collection window ends to remind yourself
• When your alarm goes off, navigate to the Too Good To Go app, and find your local store. Keep refreshing the page and when the grey ‘Sold Out’ button changes to a green ‘Buy Now’ button, it’s time to spring into action!
• Click through the checkout to make payment. If you’ve purchase something from the app previously, it will automatically store your payment details, which makes it easier to complete this section.
• Collect your magic bag during the collection window given. If you go to the customer services desk and show the receipt on your app they will get your box for you.
• When they hand over your box, they will swipe across on the app to confirm you’ve received your magic bag.

What I Got In My Morrisons Too Good To Go Box

• 2 x boxes of Mr Kipling Apple & Blackcurrant pies (usually £1.70 per box)
• 2 x boxes of Mr Kipling Trifle Bakewells (usually £1.70 per box)
• 2 x punnets of strawberries (usually £1 per punnet)
• 2 x packs of nectarines (usually £2 per pack)
• 2 x punnets of red grapes (usually £1 per punnet)
• 2 x loaves of Warburtons medium white bread (usually £1.10 per loaf)
• 1 x bag of organic apples (usually £2.25 per bag)
• 3 x bags of sweetclems (usually £2 per bag)
• 1 x loaf of Warburton premium brown bread (usually 90p per loaf)

Total £26.15 bought for £3.09

My Review Of Morrisons Too Good To Go Boxes

I was amazed at how much the items in my box actually worked out to be. For £3.09, I got loads of fruit which is usually quite expensive, and the 3 loaves of bread were useful as I put them in the freezer to make them last longer.

This being said, the boxes are only a bargain if you are actually going to eat the food. If you won’t use it or are a fussy eater, it won’t actually cut down food waste or work out cheaper for you. Please don’t buy a box if you don’t think you’ll eat the food or if you think someone else could use it more than you. If you will struggle to eat all the food in the box at once, you can choose to freeze the food if it is freezable.

I think it’s an amazing idea for families or couples who are on a budget or are struggling with their food bills.
